Employee engagement is highest in 20 years—what's next?

According to a recent report published by Gallup (August 26, 2018) employee engagement figures are the highest and most favorable since the organization began reporting almost two decades ago. https://news.gallup.com/poll/241649/employee-engagement-rise.aspx

• 34% of U.S. workers are engaged, tying highest in Gallup's history
• "Actively disengaged" percentage is down to 13%, a new low
• The ratio between highly engaged and disengaged (2.6 engaged to every one disengaged) is the most favorable since 2000.

The report goes on to say, "those in the top quartile of engagement realize substantially better customer engagement, higher productivity, better retention, fewer accidents, and 21% higher profitability". Engaged workers also report better health outcomes. Pretty encouraging news.

Savvy employers have embraced the need to engage workers with better benefits, more personalized rewards and recognition, team building tools, and pro-social values-based initiatives. As employee engagement HR leaders evolve their approach it begs the question "where to start?" What factors drive engagement for today's workers?
